Wayne Keller
Wayne Keller was born around 1958. He was the husband of Katie Keller and the father of Keith, Robert, and Ben. He governed the family’s Essex household through violence, murdered Katie in early 2005, and concealed her death by claiming that she had abandoned the family. After Katie’s remains were recovered in early 2025, Wayne was prosecuted, convicted of her murder, and imprisoned. He later died in custody.
Family and Household
Wayne married Katie in 1986. They lived in Essex, Maryland, and had three sons: Keith, Robert, and Ben. Wayne abused Katie and the children and enforced the household hierarchy through threats and physical violence.
Murder of Katie Keller
Wayne killed Katie in the family home in early 2005 and concealed the murder through a false abandonment account. Keith, then seventeen and approaching eighteen, helped conceal the murder. Robert, approximately fifteen or sixteen, knew or strongly suspected the truth and remained silent. Ben was fourteen and believed that Katie had left the family until after his 2038 release from Patuxent.

Cold-Case Investigation
Katie’s birth family rejected Wayne’s account of her disappearance and continued searching for her. They later retained a cold-case investigation team that recovered her remains in early 2025. The recovery resulted in Wayne’s prosecution and conviction for Katie’s murder. He was imprisoned and later died in custody.
